Biography
Lao, sometimes referred to as Laotian, is a Southwestern Tai language and the official language of Laos. It is also spoken in the Isan region of northeastern Thailand, where it is usually called the Isan language.
"[Lao language researcher and activist Prakiane] Viravong argues that the newer written form of the Lao language introduced in 1975 weakens the Lao language. He has implored Lao organisations in the country and overseas to find ways to teach Lao and instil pride in their language."
