QOTD.org is a free, independent resource dedicated to collecting and sharing the world's most meaningful quotes. We believe a single sentence from the right person at the right moment can change your thinking — and sometimes your life.

Our database contains over 946,962 quotes from thousands of authors — philosophers, scientists, writers, athletes, leaders, and everyday people who found the right words. Every quote is browsable by author and category, and we add new quotes regularly.

History

QOTD.org was founded in September 1998 by Brian Guerra, making it one of the longest-running quote destinations on the web. What started as a small personal project quickly grew into a daily quote mailing list with a dedicated following.

In June 2000, G. Armour Van Horn took over the site's development and expanded it significantly — growing the daily mailing into themed quote collections, building out the site's early web presence, and shepherding it through its next chapter of growth. The site has been rebuilt and modernized many times since, but the mission has stayed the same: serve up a great quote every day.
